

This could have been done by a.jeweler, jobber, wholesaler or chosen by the original purchaser. When your watch was made, the movement and case were not paired untill the point of sale. If the gold wore through to the brass before the said number of years, a reputable watch case manufacturer would replace the case. These years ranged from 5-25 to permanent in some instances. The year guarantees are a quality marker. This made a more sturdy and economical case than solid gold.

Gold filled means that your case is made of a material consisting of a brass sheet sandwiched in between two thinner sheets of gold. James Boss patented his method of making watch cases in 1859 and Keystone came to own the rights through various company acquisitions. (This changed at some point and I don't know exactly when). The scales with crown indicate it is 14k gold filled and guaranteed for 20 or 25 years. The case is made by Keystone watch case company. It is pendant set, so to set the time you pull out the crown and turn, then depress the crown when the correct time shows. This means it was designed to wind at 12 and the seconds at 6 with a normal dial. This is the basic number for a good lever escapement. Two pallet stones, a roller jewel, two balance hole jewels and two balance cap jewels. It is 0 sized, which means it measures 1 1/16" across the dial plate of the movement. It is a grade 202 which is Elgins designation for this exact movement taking into consideration all features.

As other have said, it dates around the turn of the century. The movement itself (the inner workings) comes from the Elgin national watch company.
